BIOGRAPHY

Peter Gordon (b. 1971) is a British artist based in Winchester. Working mainly in graphite, he uses traditional drawing methods to explore perception, memory and judgement.

His drawings are built through close observation, using methods such as sight-size drawing, careful measurement and repeated looking. Rather than simply reproducing what he sees, Gordon treats drawing as a process of testing and refining perception.

His practice forms part of his wider research, Seeing Before Judging: Failure, Perception and Human Judgement. He is interested in how memory, habit and expectation shape what we see, and how error and mistakes can prompt us to look again.

Gordon has a 20-year career in creative education. As Course Director of a vibrant Creative Industries department, he taught and developed work across diverse creative disciplines, including 3D modelling, interactive and graphic design, advertising, virtual film-making and UX/UI design. This experience continues to inform his interest in how people learn to see, make and judge.

His drawings ask the viewer to to slow down, look closely, question their first impressions and see again.
